Dear Cabinet Secretary

Communities First Funding

We recently met with staff from the four Communities First clusters in Newport. This was part of the Committee’s on-going consideration of the decision to close down the Communities First programme.

It was our understanding based on the oral evidence you give to the Committee in February, that the funding levels would be retained until June 2017:

“I made the announcement on Tuesday to start a transition period, which was about fully funding the programme until June with a 70 per cent profile over the first 12 months of business.”[1]

However, during discussions with staff they indicated that funding would be reduced from April.

We would appreciate if you could provide us with clarity on when the funding levels will be reduced.
